[CDs #20-25] Listening Outpaces Posting: Or, can UKians play surf music?
In which my continuing vainglorious quest to listen to all of my CDs is accelerating. Unfortunately the time available to write witty commentary on them all is decreasing.
- Bad Brains: Quickness: Better than I Against I. I guess they had done what they needed to do for marketing. Also, the rest of the world finally caught up with them.
- Chet Baker: My Funny Valentine: I saw the excellent film “Let’s Get Lost” many years ago and started to dig Chet Baker.
- Chet Baker: Memories, Chet Baker in Tokyo: Two jazz records! I am getting old.
- The Barracudas: Drop Out With The Barracudas: “London Surf City”? British junkies sing surf tunes? Cowabunga! and opiate addiction from a bunch a guys who wish it could be 1965 again. Excellent!
- The Barracudas: Now Wait For Everything: Not as good. Typical sophomore slump. Blather.
- The Beastie Boys: Some Old Bullshit: Interesting to see just how horrible these guys were when they started out. Wannabe Bad Brains clones who started to poke fun at hip hop and reggae as a joke. This is however the disc with the immortal “Cookiepuss”. I still remember hearing that on the radio and going WTF? WTF is that? That is the stupidest damn thing evar! I wanna hear it again!
